Even if there is still no official statement from Munich or Garching, the preparation of the BMW M6 Competition and BMW M5 Competition Package is apparently in full swing. Worldcarfans reader Nicolas Navarro recently caught an M6 prototype which is most likely a tester for the optional competition package.
Particularly noticeable are the rims with the camouflaged BMW logo, behind them the BMW M carbon-ceramic brake system is apparently used — which according to the current status, just like the M Driver’s Package (Vmax increase to 305 km / h) is standard. The scope of the package and will drive the price into the five-digit range.
At the rear of the BMW M6 Competition 2013, the spoiler lip on the trunk lid also catches the eye, which ensures more contact pressure on the rear axle at high speeds without being too thick in everyday life. The exhaust system of the later series vehicles with tailpipes in chrome is supposed to shine, the corresponding attachments are apparently not yet installed in the prototype.
The more important demarcations from the series take place in an area that cannot be overlooked at first glance: just like in the case of the BMW M5 F10 with factory tuning, the BMW M6 Competition Package comes with a more aggressively tuned chassis and newly programmed engine software come, with the latter providing a more direct response and an increase in performance by 15 to 575 hp. In addition, the steering should be revised and coordinated more directly. It remains unclear whether the interior of the Competition models can be more clearly distinguished from the series, for example with bucket seats.
It is more likely, however, that BMW M GmbH will not overdo it with its sportiness in order not to deprive the upper-class models, which are often used as extremely confident long-distance vehicles, of their everyday qualities. The main opponents of the M5 and M6, which have been upgraded with the Competition Package, are the Swabian Mercedes E 63 AMG S-Model and Mercedes CLS 63 AMG S-Model, which are equipped with 585 hp and all-wheel drive.
