In Portugal we were not only able to drive the new BMW 5 Series G30, we were also able to take some photos of the official BMW M Performance tuning accessories for the sedan. The fact that the BMW 540i was standing in the rain and not a single ray of sun strayed onto the body could not in the least defuse the sporty, aggressive appearance of the seventh generation of the 5 series — the elements in black or carbon fiber are clearly delimited from the white in all light conditions Painting off.
The factory tuning is based on the M Sport package for the BMW 5 Series G30, but goes a few steps further and takes the sedan to the next level both visually and technically. The most noticeable design changes on the front are the black kidney grille and the splitter attachment for the front apron, the two outer air inlets are also decorated with carbon attachments. Anyone who has the M Performance 5 m rearview mirror could also see the dark carbon exterior mirrors.
The sporty side skirts with BMW M Performance lettering, the two-tone rims, the rear spoiler lip and the diffuser insert for the M Package rear apron, like the trapezoidal tailpipes of the sports exhaust system, are further clear differences from the series. All in all, the tuning components ensure that the BMW 5 Series G30 almost completely sheds the restraint that is common in this class and makes no secret of its power reserves and significantly optimized driving dynamics.
From a technical point of view, too, there are good reasons for the stricter look of the M Performance 5 Series, because in addition to the design, there are also some optimizations for measurably more dynamics. On request, a high-performance brake system with perforated brake discs can be installed behind the 20-inch alloy wheels, which makes sense for sporty drivers not only in combination with an increase in performance.
The BMW M Performance Power Kit for the B58 engine of the BMW 540i will be available right from the start, the in-line six-cylinder then sends 360 hp and 500 Newton meters to the rear wheels and should offer even better performance, especially at high speeds. Another power kit for the BMW 530d with B57 diesel is already in progress, this should come to 292 hp and 650 Newton meters of torque through the increase in performance.
